Aim of Programme


The programme aims to prepare graduates from a variety of academic backgrounds for rewarding careers (both nationally and internationally) in tourism and related sectors.

This programme encourages hand-on experience and interaction between academics and industry practitioners from the national and international tourism sector.

On successful completion of the programme students are expected to have knowledge and critical awareness of:

  • International tourism and development
  • Relevant theories that inform international tourism management decisions
  • Ethical, corporate social responsibility and sustainability dilemmas that arise in the tourism professional practice
  • The interrelationships between the various stakeholders and sectors of the visitor economy with a particular focus on the digital
  • Professional and organisational practices acquired from a tourism and destination internship
  • Methodologies for effective practical research in national/ international tourism

Tourism as a broad discipline welcomes candidates with expertise in various fields. Candidates will have a minimum of a Level 8 Honours degree and will have to complete an interview to obtain admission.

Delivery

Please note that due to COVID restrictions, all classes are currently being provided remotely.

1 year: 24 weeks (January to April and September to December)

Monday mornings from 9.00am to 1.00pm.

Additional small group tutorials will take place on alternate weeks throughout both semesters. A number of workshops, which will offer engagement with a selection of guest speakers and successful entrepreneurs, will be scheduled during the semester. Dates for these workshops will be notified at the commencement of each semester.

If approved for funding the programme will be free/part-funded to applicants that meet Springboard+ Funding Eligibility Criteria.
