Aim of Programme


The main objective of the level 6 Certificate in Applied Laboratory Science is to provide learners from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to explore and develop their interest in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech and Medical Device industries.  

This programme will provide learners with the opportunity to further their skill, or re-skill and make a positive contribution to the economy through gaining an understanding of the dynamics of business and in particular from an industry perspective ensuring they are better at making decisions, solving problems and skilled for the workplace of the future.  

The aim of this programme is to provide the learner with the opportunity to develop the technical, scientific, interpersonal knowledge, skills and competencies required for these roles within these organizations. The course will assist the learner in becoming a more effective contributor to the core operational requirements of these industries. The programme is designed to up-skill employees, operators, technicians already employed within the industries to gain promotional opportunities and to become more effective contributors to the organisation. Equally the programme is designed to upskill candidates not currently working within these industrial sectors to gain the working language appropriate to the systems employed by these industrial sectors.  

It has been well documented that in recent times increasing numbers of companies in the Midlands region have been to the forefront in seeking this type of transversal skills qualification.

Minimum Entry Requirements


(a) Mature applicants (applicants over 23 years of age) or 

(b) Leaving Certificate Grade D3/O6 in five subjects at ordinary level (or equivalent) to include mathematic and a language (Irish or English) or and equivalent second level qualification. 

(c) QQI Level 5: Full award with a minimum of eight modules. Distinctions required in three Science related modules.

Induction

AIT Induction Sessions will take place on Friday 18th September 2020, 6.00pm to 9.00pm, Saturday 19th September 2020, 9.30am to 12.30pm and 2.00pm to 5.00pm.

All registered students must attend one session, and you will be advised of your session when your application is processed. This is a face to face induction, where registered students will meet their lecturers and become acquainted with AIT operating systems, such as our online delivery platform, Moodle, Rules and Regulations etc.

All current regulations and public health guidelines in relation to social distancing will be in place at these sessions.

NOTE: This programme has been submitted for Springboard+ funding.  

If approved for funding the programme will be free/part-funded to applicants that meet Springboard+ Funding Eligibility Criteria. 

Confirmation of all Springboard+ Funded programmes is expected in May/June 2021.
