Aim of Programme


Level 1 IT and Network Support technicians are typically the first point of contact in a company for IT related issues. This can include setting up new hardware or user accounts, managing the network to ensure secure connectivity, installing and updating software and maintaining the physical network infrastructure. This programme equips graduates with the necessary technical and soft skills to perform these key front-line duties.

This programme is based on the internationally recognised CompTIA A+ and Cisco CCNA (first half) programmes.

  • Computer Systems provides an overview of key computer hardware and its operation.
  • Network Fundamentals introduces the key network concepts such as devices, topologies and IP addressing.
  • Network Device Configuration develops skills in secure network switch configuration.

The above is based on the current CCNA version 7 syllabus. These modules are generally considered to be the industry standard to commence a career in IT and Network support and introduce key trouble-shooting skills which are adaptable to many situations. It gives employers reassurance that the potential employee understands key concepts applicable to the IT and network fields of today.

  • Communication in the Workplace focuses on the key interpersonal skills necessary for good teamwork, and also develops students’ ability to communicate their ideas effectively, both in oral presentation and in writing.

Minimum Entry Requirements


Mature applicants (i.e over 23 years)

or

Leaving Certificate Grade O6 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish)

or

QQI Level 5 – Full award with a minimum of eight modules

Or

Recognition of Prior Learning.

Registered students will meet their lecturers and become acquainted with AIT operating systems, such as our online delivery platform, Moodle, Rules and Regulations etc.
